Dr. Matteo Angelo Lucchetti

PhD in Biology, master's degree in Industrial Biotechnology and Biocatalysis, BSc in Biotechnology

Manager Scientific Editing

Matteo initially joined PMI within the Scientific Engagement team and is now part of the Content and Owned Media as Manager Scientific Editing. In this new role, he is responsible for reviewing and approving scientific communication materials on PMI’s smoke-free products and tobacco harm reduction. As such, he acts as a gatekeeper for the accuracy of PMI's scientific communications, with the goal of increasing awareness and understanding of the company's mission to create a smoke-free future.

Throughout his career, providing accurate and nonmisleading scientific information in the field of harm reduction has been a key driver of Matteo’s work. Before joining PMI, his work included an investigation of the occurrence of plant toxins in honeybee products as an approach to food harm reduction and research on sugar reduction and perceived sweetness in yogurt, focusing on formulating healthier dairy products. Matteo also worked as a Biology Teaching Assistant at the University of Neuchâtel, where he enjoyed instilling his passion for science in his students.

Reduced Risk Products ("RRPs”) is the term we use to refer to products that present, are likely to present, or have the potential to present less risk of harm to smokers who switch to these products versus continuing smoking. PMI has a range of RRPs in various stages of development, scientific assessment and commercialization. All of our RRPs are smoke-free products that deliver nicotine with far lower quantities of harmful and potentially harmful constituents than found in cigarette smoke.
