The aerosol samples are generated with a linear smoking machine and collected with two micro impingers filled with 25 mM DNPH extraction solution to allow DNPH-derivatization of carbonyls. The solution is then stabilized with pyridine and sent to the analytical laboratory for analysis. The extracts are analyzed by Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) coupled to a tandem mass spectrometry with an Electrospray Ionization (ESI) interface in negative mode. The UPLC system is equipped with a column Waters Acquity BEH C18 1.7 μm, 2.1 x 50 mm. Results are expressed as μg/item for the Tobacco Heating System (THS), referred to as Platform 1 (P1) in the method.

Reduced Risk Products ("RRPs”) is the term we use to refer to products that present, are likely to present, or have the potential to present less risk of harm to smokers who switch to these products versus continuing smoking. PMI has a range of RRPs in various stages of development, scientific assessment and commercialization. All of our RRPs are smoke-free products that deliver nicotine with far lower quantities of harmful and potentially harmful constituents than found in cigarette smoke.
