This 22nd issue of the Scientific Update, published in October 2025, highlights the efforts of our safety surveillance team. The issue includes an interview with several members of the team, discussing how PMI’s safety surveillance system works and how it is used to monitor potential adverse or unfavorable events associated with the use of our smoke-free products. We also discuss safety surveillance data collected over the past 10 years, and the key insights regarding the safety profile of our leading heated tobacco product. This issue also features reviews of two aerosol studies recently published by PMI scientists.

Reduced Risk Products ("RRPs”) is the term we use to refer to products that present, are likely to present, or have the potential to present less risk of harm to smokers who switch to these products versus continuing smoking. PMI has a range of RRPs in various stages of development, scientific assessment and commercialization. All of our RRPs are smoke-free products that deliver nicotine with far lower quantities of harmful and potentially harmful constituents than found in cigarette smoke.
